Who is the Intermediate
Mountaineering Program for?
This program is for those who want a solid understanding of the fundamental
skills of alpine
mountaineering:
how to use ropes, crampons, ice axes, ropes, harnesses, ice screws,
and more, to climb safely up steep snow and moderately steep ice. If
you are contemplating a trip to the big peaks of the American West,
Alaska, South America, or the Alps, then this program will help you
build the necessary skills.
When is the Intermediate
Mountaineering Program held?
This course runs every day from late fall through early spring. You

What will I learn
on the Intermediate Mountaineering Program?
This course starts with the One Day Basic Mountaineering lesson then
follows on day two with a moderately difficult, multi-pitch snow and
ice climb. This climb helps integrate all the skills learned on the
first day . Day three is an attempt to climb Mt. Washington. Though
only semi-technical, this mountaineering adventure will put your crampon
and ice axe skills as well as your stamina to the test in a classic
alpine environment.
How big are the
classes for the Intermediate Mountaineering Program?
Our standard group instruction is taught with a maximum of three clients
with one instructor. We keep our ratios low so that you get personal
attention. If you book in for a group lesson as an individual or a party
of two, we may match you with someone else if it is appropriate.
How do I sign
up for the Intermediate Mountaineering Program?
Signing up is as easy as calling our reservation and information line
at 603-444-1039. or When you call we will answer any questions you have
about our programs and then take down all the information we need to
sign you up. We take payment at the time of the reservation via a credit
card--though other payment options may be available. To ensure that
you get the day you want, try to give us as much notice as possible--a
couple of weeks is usually sufficient (we may be able to accommodate
you with much less notice so if your schedule opens up and you want
to climb, just give us a call.)
What personal equipment
does Climb On, Inc provide?
We provide all the technical equipment including a harness, helmet,
mountaineering boots, crampons and ice axes.
What hours does
the course run and how is the day structured?
We meet for the course at 7:30 and usually finishes up between 3:00
and 4:00 PM. After a few minutes in the morning making sure we have
the proper equipment we will head out to the climbs. We will be busy
climbing all day. The Mount Washington day starts at 7:00 AM.
Do I need to
be young and fit to take the Intermediate Mountaineering Program?
If you are eager to learn, enthusiastic and in reasonably good shape,
we can teach you to climb.
Can children
take the Intermediate Mountaineering Program?
Children 15 and over may sign up for mountaineering lessons without
restriction. If you have a child 12-14 years old give us call to see
what would be appropriate. We're sorry, but ice climbing instruction
is not available for children under 12.
What do I need
to Bring?
Clothing is an important part of our winter programs and being properly
